Bad Seed

By Maxwell Anderson
The Dramatization of William March’s novel The Bad Seed
Directed by: Ida Cooksey
Performances: October 11-14, 2007

One of Broadway’s outstanding hits. “It is solely and honestly meant to entertain…As purely purposeful diversion it ranks with ‘Dracula’ and sometimes sets your spine to as much tingling…chilling.” NY Telegram.

THE STORY
: The scene is a small Southern town where Colonel and Christine Penmark live with their daughter, Rhoda. Little Rhoda Penmark is the evil queen of the story. On the surface she is sweet, charming, full of old-fashioned graces, loved by her parents, admired by all her elders. But Rhoda’s mother has an uneasy feeling about her. When one of Rhoda’s schoolmates is mysteriously drowned at a picnic, Mrs. Penmark is alarmed. For the boy who was drowned was the one who had won the penmanship medal that Rhoda felt she deserved

A Christmas Carol

Adapted by Michael Paller from the story by Charles Dickens
Directed by: Tracy Harrington

Auditions: October 22-23, 2007

Performances: December 6-9, 2007

This fresh approach to the classic tale faithfully conveys the magic of Dickens. On Christmas Eve in 1843, friends and family gathered at Dickens’ home ask him to tell a story, but he refuses to work on Christmas Eve. If there is going to be a story, each must take a part in its telling. And so the story of Ebeneezer Scrooge unfolds, with the cast of 10 playing over 40 parts. “Done with respect and ingenuity. Deserves to be seen.” Cleveland Free Press. “A treat ... for the whole family to enjoy.” Cleveland Sunday Press.

Guys And Dolls

Book by: Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling
Lyrics by: Frank Loesser
Music by: Frank Loesser
Based on The Idyll of Sarah Brown and characters by Damon Runyon
Directed by: Sam Higdon
Music directed by: Michael Inlow
Choreographed by: Susan Higdon
Auditions: January 7-8, 2008

Performances: March 6-9, March 13-16, 2008

Set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, this oddball romantic comedy - considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy – soars with the spirit of Broadway as it introduces us to a cast of vivid characters who have become legends in the canon: Sarah Brown, the upright but uptight “mission doll,” out to reform the evildoers of Time Square; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide, the chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she’s been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiancé, desperate as always to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game. Everything works out in the end, thanks to the machinations of Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling’s hilarious, fast-paced book and Frank Loesser’s bright, brassy, immortal score, which takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City. Funny and romantic, “Guys And Dolls” is ideal for audiences and performers of any age.

Sylvia

By A. R. Gourney
Directed by: Martha Mobley
Cast: 2 men, 2 women: 4 total

Auditions: March 17-18, 2008

Performances: May 8-11, 2008

A modern romantic comedy about a marriage and a dog. “Dramatic literature is stuffed with memorable love scenes, but none is as immediately delicious and dizzy as the one that begins the redeeming affair in A.R. Gurney’s comedy, SYLVIA…” —NY Times. “I can only call it one of the most involving, beautiful, funny, touching and profound plays I have ever seen…” —NY Daily News. “Gurney’s mad comedy is the most endearing good time to trot down the pike in many a moon. Howlingly funny…” —BackStage.

THE STORY: Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after twenty-two years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate’s career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park—or that has found him—bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag. A street-smart mixture of Lab and Poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of this job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. And Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn’t understand the relationship between man and dog. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy until, after a series of hilarious and touching complications, Greg and Kate learn to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of their lives.
